Improving Indoor Air Quality and Weather Monitoring

As a homeowner, ensuring the air quality in my 3700-square-foot home is a top priority. My journey began with a professional Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) test, which provided a detailed report. Based on this, I implemented several solutions including UVC HVAC lights, reusable filters, daily window ventilation, and air purifiers in every room. Monitoring air quality in each room and using Home Assistant for automation has been transformative. It’s amazing how these changes have positively impacted our family’s health and well-being.

Another exciting project I undertook was developing a weather parser for my RainMachine smart watering device using WillyWeather’s REST API. The default BoM data wasn’t sufficient as it only provided a single daily reading. WillyWeather’s API offers more localized and accurate data, which is crucial for precise watering schedules. Setting this up was straightforward, and the lightweight API requires minimal setup. I even designed it to integrate with Home Assistant sensors and weather cards, enhancing my smart home ecosystem further.

For anyone looking to improve their home’s air quality or enhance weather monitoring, I highly recommend exploring these solutions. They’re not only effective but also relatively easy to implement with the right guidance. Happy tinkering!
