Hey , Share some tweaks I made that seriously boosted the reliability of my Aqara motion sensors.
So, I’ve been using a few of the P1s around the house for a while now, mainly for lights turning on in hallways and closet areas. At first, they were kinda hit or miss — sometimes reacting sluggishly or not at all. Thought it was an issue with HomeKit latency or interference, but turns out, positioning and a few smart tricks made all the difference.
What worked for me:
- I mounted them at around chest height rather than way up high. For some reason, detection got way more consistent at that level, especially for side-to-side movement.
- I turned down the sensitivity in the Aqara app just a notch — sounds counterintuitive, but weirdly it cut down on false triggers and made the real ones more responsive.
- Lastly, I ditched the idea of putting them behind anything, even furniture legs. Clean line of sight makes a HUGE difference.
Bonus tip: in rooms with a lot of sunlight during the day, I noticed performance drops. Ended up tweaking automation delays in HomeKit to compensate during “sunlight hours” and it’s been solid since.
Would love to know if anyone’s experimented with placement angles or multi-sensor setups to cover dead zones. Anyone doing clever stuff with automation based on motion inactivity too?
Let’s crowdsource the ultimate setup.
