Installing Govee Outdoor Smart Lights: A Fun DIY Project

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share my recent DIY project with the Govee outdoor RGB smart light strips! :star2: It was such a fun experience and I thought I’d walk through my process in case anyone is considering something similar.

The Setup
My home is about 80 feet long, so I decided to split the lights down the middle. It was a bit of a challenge getting them up 12 feet on the ladder, but I figured out a little hack: pre-installing the screws into the brackets before hanging them. This made the process so much easier! No more scrambling on the ground to find tiny bolts in the grass. :joy:

Installation Tips

  • Bracket Placement: I spaced the brackets evenly to ensure a smooth light flow.
  • Screw Pre-Installation: As I mentioned, this saved me a lot of time and frustration.
  • Power Source: I used the included power adapter and made sure it was securely placed behind the house to keep it hidden.

First Impressions
The lights are so vibrant and customizable! I’ve already set up a few scenes using the Govee app, from warm whites for bedtime to colorful settings for parties. The RGBIC feature is a game-changer for adding some festive flair. :fireworks:

Challenges
One thing I struggled with initially was getting the right balance of brightness. I ended up tweaking the settings in the app to ensure they weren’t too overwhelming at night. Now they’re just right—soft and inviting!

Why I Love This Project
This was such a rewarding project. Not only did it give my home a nice upgrade, but it also gave me a sense of accomplishment. Plus, it’s been a great conversation starter with neighbors who stop by to admire the lights.

Next Steps
I’m already brainstorming ways to expand this setup. Maybe adding some motion sensors to turn them on automatically when I get home? Or integrating them with my smart speaker for voice control? The possibilities are endless!

If anyone has tips or creative ideas for outdoor lighting, I’d love to hear them! Let’s keep the DIY spirit alive! :hammer_and_wrench::sparkles:
