Hello everyone! I’m thrilled to share my experience integrating a Kecheer Wi-Fi thermometer with Home Assistant. Initially, I faced a challenge where the device was recognized as a switch instead of a sensor. After some research and troubleshooting, I managed to resolve the issue and now have accurate temperature and humidity readings. Here’s how I did it:
-
Initial Setup: I started by adding the thermometer through the Smart Life app, which worked seamlessly. Home Assistant automatically detected the device, but it was categorized incorrectly as a switch.
-
Configuration Adjustment: I manually changed the device type in Home Assistant to a sensor. This involved editing the device configuration in the integrations section. Once updated, the device began showing temperature and humidity data correctly.
-
Automation Setup: With the sensor working, I created an automation to turn off the heating if the temperature exceeds 20°C. This has been working perfectly, saving energy and keeping the room comfortable.
-
Tips for Others: If you’re facing similar issues, ensure your device is correctly categorized in Home Assistant. Checking the device type and updating it if necessary can resolve many integration problems.
I’m excited to continue enhancing my smart home setup with more sensors and automations. Huge thanks to the Home Assistant community for the wealth of resources and support! ![]()
