Integrating Alarmo with Adonno Tag Reader for Secure Access

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of home automation and have come across some interesting challenges and solutions that I’d love to share with you.

Recently, I’ve been working on setting up Alarmo for my home security system. It’s been a fantastic experience so far, especially with its intuitive app for arming and disarming the system. However, I wanted to take it a step further by allowing non-app registered users to also control the alarm system. This led me to explore the idea of using RFID chips for access control.

I was curious about the security aspects of this approach—specifically, whether the RFID chips could be easily cloned or replicated. After some research, I discovered that using encrypted RFID tags can significantly enhance security, making it much harder for unauthorized individuals to replicate the signal. This was a relief because it meant I could safely integrate this system without compromising security.

Another challenge I faced was with Shelly devices. I tried adding a Shelly 1 Mini Gen 3 to my Home Assistant setup, but I kept encountering an error: “already_in_progress”. After some troubleshooting, I realized that restarting both the Shelly device and my Home Assistant instance was necessary to resolve the issue. It was a bit frustrating at first, but once everything was up and running, it worked like a charm!

In addition to these technical aspects, I’ve been exploring ways to share user information across different flows in my automation setup. This has been particularly useful for creating a seamless experience where users can trigger actions across multiple devices with ease. While there’s still room for improvement in terms of variable handling, the current setup has made my home automation much more efficient and user-friendly.

Overall, my journey with Alarmo, Shelly devices, and user sharing has been both educational and rewarding. It’s amazing how these tools can come together to create a smart, secure, and interconnected home environment. I’d love to hear about your experiences and any tips or tricks you’ve picked up along the way!

Cheers,
