Integrating Devices Without a Hub in SmartThings

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of SmartThings lately, and I’m curious to know if anyone else has managed to integrate their devices without using a hub. I’ve got a setup with LED bulbs, sensors, and ESP8266 modules communicating via MQTT to my OpenHAB installation. It’s been working great so far, but I’m now looking to extend this functionality to SmartThings on my Samsung Galaxy devices.

I’ve successfully integrated my devices with HomeKit using the HomeKit addon, which was a breeze. But when it comes to SmartThings, I’m hitting a bit of a wall. I installed the SmartThings binding in OpenHAB and configured a ‘Smartthings Hub’ thing, but without an actual hub, I’m not sure where to go from here. I followed the tutorial, but since I don’t have a hub, the setup feels incomplete.

One thing I noticed is that in HomeKit, I could add metadata to my devices to make them recognizable in the iOS Home app. I was hoping to do something similar for SmartThings, but there’s no option to add SmartThings-specific metadata in OpenHAB. Does anyone know if this is possible or if there’s another workaround?

I also tried installing the OpenHabAPPv2 in the SmartThings app, and it shows that my OpenHAB device is connected, but there’s nothing to control yet. It would be fantastic if I could get my devices listed directly in the SmartThings app instead of relying on the OpenHAB app or browser interface.

If anyone has managed to pull this off without a hub, I’d love to hear your tips or tricks. Maybe there’s a metadata field I’m missing or a different configuration approach. Let’s discuss!
