Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of Z-Wave automation with my Fibaro FGBS222 and SmartThings hub, and I wanted to share my journey and some tips I’ve picked up along the way. ![]()
The Setup
I recently acquired the Fibaro FGBS222 to expand my Z-Wave setup. My goal was to use one of its inputs to trigger a Z-Wave command, which would then activate a chime and turn on lights between sunset and sunrise. It’s a simple yet effective setup for enhancing home security and convenience.
The Challenge
Initially, I faced some hurdles. The FGBS222 was powered from my security panel’s 12VDC supply, and while I could add it to SmartThings as a door/window sensor, the contact status didn’t change as expected. After some experimentation, I realized that applying or removing a ground for an extended period didn’t toggle the status, but a quick ground did. This was a bit confusing at first, but I managed to work around it by adjusting my automation rules.
The Solution
After some research and trial and error, I figured out that using a quick ground pulse was the key to reliably toggling the sensor’s state. I then set up an automation in SmartThings that triggers a chime and turns on the lights when the sensor detects movement. It’s a small victory, but it makes a big difference in terms of home security!
Tips for Others
If you’re looking to integrate Fibaro devices with SmartThings, here are a few tips:
- Start Simple: Begin with basic automations and gradually build up complexity.
- Experiment with Inputs: Test different input configurations to find what works best for your setup.
- Check Connections Regularly: Ensure all connections are secure and powered correctly to avoid unexpected issues.
Looking Ahead
This project has been a great learning experience, and I’m excited to expand my Z-Wave setup further. I’m considering adding more Fibaro modules and exploring advanced automations. If anyone has tips or experiences to share, I’d love to hear them! ![]()
