Hey everyone! I’ve recently been trying to integrate my Ford vehicle with SmartThings using the FordPass skill on Alexa. While I initially faced some challenges, I figured out a workaround and wanted to share it with the community in case others are struggling with the same issue.
First, I tried to find a direct integration between FordPass and SmartThings but came up empty-handed. However, I remembered that SmartThings allows you to add custom routines that can trigger Alexa commands. Here’s how I made it work:
-
Enable FordPass on Alexa: Make sure you’ve linked your Ford account to the FordPass skill on Alexa. This will allow you to control your vehicle via voice commands.
-
Create a Routine in SmartThings: Open the SmartThings app and navigate to the ‘Routines’ section. Create a new routine and add a step where Alexa sends a command to your Ford vehicle. For example, you can set it to start your car when you leave for work.
-
Test the Integration: Before finalizing, test the routine to ensure everything works smoothly. I found that using specific commands like ‘Alexa, tell FordPass to start my car’ worked perfectly within the routine.
-
Customize Further: You can add multiple steps to your routine, such as adjusting the temperature or unlocking the doors, depending on your needs.
I hope this helps someone out there! It’s amazing how a little creativity can bridge the gap between different smart home ecosystems. If anyone has additional tips or improvements, please share them below. Happy automating! ![]()
