Hi everyone, I’m excited to share my journey of integrating my Gardena mower with Google Assistant. I recently purchased a Gardena mower and wanted to automate its control using Google Assistant. After some research and experimentation, I managed to set it up successfully! Here’s how I did it:
First, I connected my Gardena mower to my smart home ecosystem using the SmartThings app. This involved adding the mower as a device in the app and ensuring it was properly paired with my hub. Once the device was recognized, I could control it through the app.
Next, I wanted to integrate this with Google Assistant. I knew that IFTTT was a great tool for connecting different services, so I decided to use it. I created an applet in IFTTT that triggers Google Assistant commands whenever I say specific phrases like, ‘Hey Google, start the mower.’
The process was straightforward:
- I added the Gardena mower as a device in IFTTT.
- I created a trigger in IFTTT that listens for specific voice commands via Google Assistant.
- I set up an action in IFTTT that sends the command to the Gardena mower.
After setting this up, I tested it by giving the voice command, and the mower started right away! It was such a satisfying moment to see everything work seamlessly.
I also explored other automation possibilities, like scheduling the mower to start at specific times using Google Assistant’s routines. This added an extra layer of convenience to my setup.
Overall, this integration has made my gardening routine much easier. I can now control my mower hands-free, which is especially useful when I’m busy with other tasks around the house. I’m really happy with how this turned out and would love to hear about your experiences with automating garden tools!
Cheers,
Guillaume
