Hey everyone, I’m really excited to share my experience with integrating Google Home into my smart home setup! I recently got myself a couple of Google Home and Mini devices, and I’ve been trying to automate some daily tasks to make life easier. One of the things I wanted to automate was getting a notification when my washer finishes its cycle. I have the washer plugged into an Aeon Labs metered outlet, and I’ve been using Hubitat to handle the automation.
I set up a rule where the washer’s power usage drops, signaling the end of the cycle. The idea was to have Google Home play a custom message, like, ‘Your laundry is ready!’ But here’s where I hit a snag—I could only get my phones listed as devices to send the message to, not the Google Home or Mini. I’m wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue or has a workaround. I’ve tried a few different apps and services, but nothing seems to bridge the gap between Hubitat and Google Home seamlessly.
On a lighter note, I did manage to get the notifications working through my phone, which is better than nothing, but I’d love to have the Google Home devices do the talking. It would be so much more convenient! I’m also curious if others have successfully integrated Google Home with their washer or dryer automation. Any tips or tricks would be super helpful.
I’m really enjoying the flexibility that Hubitat offers, and I’m excited to see what other automations I can come up with. If anyone has any suggestions or solutions for the Google Home integration, I’d be thrilled to hear them. Let’s keep the ideas flowing!
