Hey everyone! I’ve been really excited about the potential of integrating smart home devices with security systems, and I wanted to share my recent experience with you. I recently came across an idea to connect my Govee lights with my ADT security system, and I thought it could be a game-changer for home safety.
Initially, I was curious about how these two systems could communicate. I reached out to the Govee community and did some research, and it turns out there’s a way to set up custom automations that trigger the lights when the security system detects a potential threat. I decided to give it a try!
The setup wasn’t too complicated once I figured out the right configuration. I used the Home Assistant platform to create an automation that activates specific lights in a color pattern when the security system’s motion detectors are triggered. It’s been working beautifully! Not only does it provide a visual alert, but it also acts as a deterrent for potential intruders.
One thing I learned along the way was the importance of testing different settings. For example, I experimented with different light patterns and durations to find what works best for my home. I also found that integrating this with my phone notifications made the system even more effective, as I receive alerts alongside the light changes.
