Integrating Hayward Aquarite with OpenHAB: A Smooth Experience

I’ve recently embarked on a project to integrate my Hayward Aquarite pool automation system with OpenHAB, and I must say, the journey has been both challenging and rewarding. After spending considerable time developing a custom integration without an API, I’m thrilled to share that it’s working seamlessly now!

The integration is based on Python, fetching data from Hayward’s website and returning it as a JSON string to populate items in OpenHAB. While it’s still in its early stages, the core functionality is solid. I’ve been able to read pool data and send commands based on OpenHAB logic, which has greatly enhanced my pool maintenance routine.

One of the most satisfying aspects has been seeing the system respond to automated rules. For instance, I’ve set up alerts for low chemical levels and automatic adjustments based on temperature readings. It’s like having a smart assistant for my pool!

I’d love to hear from others who might be interested in taking this project further. There’s definitely room for optimization and adding more features. If anyone has suggestions or wants to collaborate, please reach out! I’m eager to make this integration more robust and user-friendly for the broader community.

Here’s to smarter pool management and the joy of tinkering with smart home tech! :ocean::sparkles:
