Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of home security and wanted to share my journey with integrating HSM (Home Security Manager) and Blue Iris. It’s been quite the adventure, and I hope this post can help others who might be tackling similar projects.
My Goal:
I’ve always wanted a seamless security setup that adapts to whether I’m home or away. Right now, I’m using HSM with door and motion sensors, and I’ve set up modes to determine what happens in each scenario. For example, when I’m away, I want the system to be on high alert, and when I’m home, it should be more relaxed. I’m also using Blue Iris for camera monitoring, which adds another layer of security.
Current Setup:
- HSM Modes: I’ve set up modes like “Home” and “Away” to control how the system behaves.
- Blue Iris Profiles: These determine which cameras are active and how they record. For instance, in “Away” mode, all cameras are on and recording continuously.
- BI Control: I’m using virtual switches to manually change modes and profiles from the dashboard, which is super handy.
Challenges and Goals:
- Automating Intrusion Detection: I’d love for HSM to automatically trigger intrusion mode when a Blue Iris camera detects motion in “Away” mode. This would mean fewer manual interventions and a more robust system.
- All-Clear State: After an alert, I want everything to return to normal after a period of inactivity. This includes switching Blue Iris back to its “Away” profile and canceling any alerts or sirens.
- Manual Override: A button or switch to manually reset the system would be incredibly useful, especially if I’m away and want to check in.
- Camera Recording on Intrusion: I’d like HSM to trigger Blue Iris’s “Intrusion” profile, which activates recording on all cameras, even if there’s no motion detected yet.
Where I Am Now:
I’ve got the basics down, but I’m still working on refining the automation. I’ve set up a VPN to access my cameras remotely, which has been a game-changer. I’ve also started experimenting with rules to handle some of these scenarios, but it’s a bit overwhelming with so many moving parts.
Looking for Input:
If anyone has experience with similar setups, I’d love to hear about what worked for you! Whether it’s tips on automation, integration tricks, or just general advice, I’m all ears. Let’s make home security as seamless and effective as possible!
Cheers, and happy tinkering! ![]()
