Integrating Landis+Gyr UH50 with Home Assistant: Success Story and Tips

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share my recent success in integrating my Landis+Gyr UH50 device with Home Assistant. After struggling with a custom Python script on my Raspberry Pi, I stumbled upon AppDaemon and it changed everything!

For those who might be facing similar challenges, here’s a quick rundown of my journey:

  1. Initial Setup: I had to use an IR Converter Cable to connect my UH50 to my Raspberry Pi. It was a bit tricky, but once connected, everything fell into place.
  2. AppDaemon Script: I adapted a script from a Dutch forum (linked in my original post) to extract my heat usage data. While it worked, I knew there was room for improvement.
  3. Official Integration: Fast forward to now, and I’m thrilled to announce that there’s now an official Home Assistant integration for Landis+Gyr Heat Meter! It’s seamless and much more reliable than my DIY setup.

Tips for Others:

  • If you’re using an older setup, consider upgrading to the official integration for better stability and support.
  • Don’t forget to configure your IR Converter Cable properly—it was the key to getting everything working smoothly.
  • If you’re new to AppDaemon, start simple and gradually add more features as you get comfortable.

I’d love to hear from others who have successfully integrated their Landis+Gyr devices. What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them? Let’s keep the conversation going!

Happy automating!
