Integrating Lutron Switches and Dimmers for a Seamless Smart Home Experience

I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation, and I must say, it’s been quite an adventure! One of the highlights for me has been integrating my Lutron RA2 Select bridge with Home Assistant. It’s been a mostly smooth journey, but there have been a few bumps along the way that I wanted to share and get some insights on.

So far, I’ve managed to get my mix of Pico remotes and RRD-PRO dimmers working seamlessly within HA. The integration has allowed me to control lighting from my phone, set up scenes, and even automate based on occupancy. However, I recently added a couple of hard-wired dimmer and switch modules (LMJ-5T-DV-B and LMJ-16R-DV-B), and I’ve hit a snag. Despite these modules being active in the Lutron setup, they aren’t being picked up by the Lutron integration in HA. I can see state changes and name changes, so the bridge is definitely communicating with them, but HA isn’t recognizing them as valid devices. I’ve taken a look at the Python code for the component, but I’m not spotting anything obvious that could be causing this issue. If anyone has any pointers or clues, I’d be grateful!

On a more positive note, I’ve been absolutely thrilled with how the integration has allowed me to create a truly personalized lighting experience. From dimming lights based on time of day to setting up scenes that match the mood, it’s been a game-changer. I’ve also been experimenting with using these switches alongside other smart devices, which has opened up a whole new world of possibilities.

One thing I’d love to explore further is how to optimize the performance of the Lutron integration within HA. I’ve heard that there are ways to tweak the settings to get even better responsiveness, but I’m not quite sure where to start. If anyone has any tips or best practices, I’d love to hear them!

Overall, I’m really enjoying the journey of building out my smart home, and I’m excited to see what other possibilities lie ahead. Whether it’s solving the mystery of those missing dimmer modules or discovering new ways to automate my space, there’s always something new to learn and try. Thanks to everyone in the community for the incredible support and resources—keep up the amazing work!
