As a long-time enthusiast of smart home technology, I’ve always been fascinated by the potential of integrating various devices to create a cohesive ecosystem. Recently, I embarked on a project to connect my Hubitat and HOOBS devices, aiming to migrate 15 z-Wave devices to Hubitat and then expose them to Apple HomeKit via HOOBS. While the journey had its challenges, the end result was nothing short of impressive.
Initially, the setup process was a bit daunting, especially since I rely on screen readers for accessibility. The instructions mentioned adding a package manager by clicking “Add code,” but I couldn’t locate the button. After some digging, I found that clicking the arrow next to the “Advanced” button was the solution. However, this wasn’t immediately obvious, and I had to troubleshoot extensively to get everything working smoothly.
Another hurdle I encountered was with the Yale Living Free Smartlocks, which were misconfigured in the interface. The lock, a z-Wave device, was showing up as a Zigbee device during the pairing process. I decided to connect it via the generic z-Wave device option and set the device type manually. Thankfully, this worked, but it would be great if the configuration page could be updated to reflect the correct device type from the start.
Despite these minor setbacks, the integration of Hubitat and HOOBS has been a game-changer for me. Being able to manage all my devices through Apple HomeKit has streamlined my daily routines and enhanced my overall smart home experience. It’s moments like these that remind me why I love exploring and integrating new technologies.
For anyone looking to embark on a similar project, my advice is to take it step by step, troubleshoot methodically, and don’t hesitate to reach out to the community for support. The journey might have its bumps, but the payoff is well worth it!
