Integrating Multiple Window Contacts with Signaling Lights

Hey everyone, I’m Dani3000 and I’m new to the forum. I’ve been exploring the world of smart home automation and I’m really excited about the possibilities it offers. However, I’ve run into a bit of a challenge that I’m hoping you all can help me with.

I want to set up my home so that multiple window contacts in different rooms are monitored using signaling lights. The idea is that if any window is open, one of the signaling lights should indicate this. Only when all windows are closed should the lights turn off.

I’ve tried setting this up using automation rules, but I’m only able to get it to work with one window per signaling light. When I try to add more windows, things start to get complicated. For example, if one window is open and the light is on, opening another window doesn’t change anything, but closing the first window turns the light off even though the second window is still open.

I’ve created two triggers: one for when a window is open and another for when it’s closed. But when I try to add more windows to the mix, the system doesn’t seem to handle it as I’d like. I’m hoping there’s a way to group all the window contacts together and have the system monitor them collectively.

Has anyone else tackled a similar problem? I’d love to hear your solutions or tips on how to approach this. Maybe there’s a smarter way to set up the automations or a feature I haven’t discovered yet. Let’s brainstorm together!

Thanks in advance for your help and ideas. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
