Hey everyone, I’m thrilled to share my recent adventure integrating my MyQ garage door opener with Hubitat. As a newbie to this ecosystem, I was initially overwhelmed but the support from this community has been invaluable. Here’s my journey:
The Goal:
I wanted seamless integration of my MyQ garage door into my smart home setup using Hubitat. The idea was to control it via voice commands and automate it with other devices.
The Challenge:
Finding the right method was tricky. I stumbled upon the MyQ lite app in the community but wasn’t sure how to authorize it. I also heard about using IFTTT and setting it as a virtual device, but that seemed a bit complex for my skill level.
The Solution:
After some research and reaching out to more experienced members, I decided to go with the MyQ lite app. Here’s how I did it:
- Download and Install: I installed the MyQ lite app from the community store.
- Authorization: The key was figuring out the authorization process. I discovered that I needed to log into my MyQ account within the app and grant access to Hubitat.
- IFTTT Integration: For automation, I set up a simple IFTTT recipe that triggers a virtual device in Hubitat when the garage door opens or closes.
- Testing: I tested the setup by opening and closing the garage door manually to ensure everything synced correctly.
The Outcome:
It works like a charm! Now, I can control my garage door with voice commands and even set up routines that link it with my lights or security system. This integration has made my smart home experience much more seamless.
