Integrating Non-Smart Samsung AC into SmartThings: Success Story!

Hello SmartThings enthusiasts! I’m thrilled to share my recent success in integrating my non-Wi-Fi Samsung WindFree air conditioner into the SmartThings ecosystem. After some research and experimentation, I managed to create a virtual device that mirrors the functionality of my AC’s IR remote. Here’s how I did it:

  1. Setup: I started with a generic Tuya IR controller, which I used to learn the necessary IR codes for my AC. The AC was already partially controllable via the Smart Life app, but I wanted a seamless experience directly within SmartThings.

  2. Virtual Device Creation: The key was creating a virtual device in SmartThings that acts as an AC. This device mirrors the remote’s buttons for power, modes, temperature, and fan speed. Each button press triggers the correct IR code, reflecting the AC’s entire state.

  3. Challenges and Solutions: Initially, I faced challenges understanding how to handle the complex IR codes, as each press encodes the full device state. However, by breaking down the process and using community resources, I found a way to map these codes effectively.

  4. Outcome: The result is a fully integrated AC that responds to voice commands and automations within SmartThings. It’s incredibly satisfying to control my AC with just my voice or through the app!

If anyone has similar projects or questions, I’d be happy to share more details or tips. Happy automating! :earth_africa::sparkles:
