Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent project integrating a Nuki Smart Lock Ultra with a fingerprint sensor for my parents’ home. The goal was to create a seamless and secure entry system without relying on traditional keys or smart devices. Here’s how I approached it:
Setup Details:
- Fingerprint Sensor: The sensor is integrated into their doorbell system. When a registered fingerprint is detected, it sends a signal to close a contactless circuit.
- Nuki Smart Lock: To handle the locking mechanism, I chose the Nuki Smart Lock Ultra for its reliability and compatibility with third-party integrations.
- Automation: Using a Shelly device, I created a bridge that converts the fingerprint sensor’s signal into an HTTP request, which then triggers the Nuki lock to unlock.
Challenges and Solutions:
Initially, I faced some connectivity issues, especially with the Shelly device. After some research, I realized that ensuring a stable Wi-Fi connection was crucial. I also considered Bluetooth as an alternative but found Wi-Fi to be more reliable in this setup.
Outcome:
The system now works flawlessly! My parents love the convenience of not needing to carry keys or use their phones. The integration with Home Assistant allows me to monitor the system remotely, adding an extra layer of security.
I’d love to hear if anyone else has implemented a similar setup or has suggestions for improvement. It’s always great to learn from the community!
Best regards,
Lukas
