Integrating PebbleAir Controllers and Promag ER750 RFID Reader

Hi everyone, I’m excited to share my recent experience integrating PebbleAir controllers and the Promag ER750 RFID reader into my smart home setup. After some research and experimentation, I managed to get everything working seamlessly, and I’d love to walk you through the process and share some tips along the way.

First, I wanted to integrate my PebbleAir controllers, which are designed to work with mini-split heat pumps. Initially, I was concerned about compatibility since I’ve had mixed experiences with third-party integrations. However, after reaching out to the manufacturer and doing some digging, I discovered that PebbleAir does offer an API for integration. This was a relief, and I was able to connect the controllers to my SmartThings hub without too much hassle. The setup involved configuring the API settings and ensuring proper network connectivity, which I documented step-by-step for anyone else looking to do the same.

Next, I focused on enhancing my home security with the Promag ER750 RFID reader. This device has been a game-changer for me, especially for outdoor access control. I wanted to use it to open my front door and disarm my alarm system. The installation process was straightforward, thanks to the device’s Ethernet connectivity, which made it easy to integrate with my existing network. However, I did run into a few challenges along the way. For instance, I initially struggled with setting up the keypad for passcode entry, but after some trial and error, I figured out how to configure it properly. I also had to ensure the device could withstand outdoor conditions, which it does remarkably well.

One of the most rewarding parts of this project was creating custom automations using SmartApps. I developed a routine where the RFID reader communicates with my alarm system, automatically disarming it when I approach the door. This integration not only enhances convenience but also adds an extra layer of security. I even wrote a small script to handle the communication between the RFID reader and my alarm system, which I’m happy to share with anyone interested.

Throughout this journey, I learned a few valuable lessons. First, thorough research and documentation are key to successful integrations. Second, don’t hesitate to reach out to manufacturers or community forums for support—they often have resources or insights that can save you a lot of time. Lastly, patience is essential when dealing with new technologies. Things might not work perfectly on the first try, but with persistence, you can overcome any obstacle.

I’m now looking forward to expanding my setup further, perhaps by adding more smart locks or integrating my HVAC system more deeply with my home automation ecosystem. If anyone has questions or needs help with similar projects, feel free to reach out—I’d be happy to assist!

Happy automating everyone! :rocket:
