Integrating Schneider Electric and Mitsubishi Devices in a Smart Home Setup

Hello everyone,

I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and it’s been an exciting journey! One of my main goals has been to integrate devices from different manufacturers, specifically Schneider Electric and Mitsubishi, into a cohesive system. While the idea sounds fantastic, the reality has been a bit of a puzzle, and I thought I’d share my experiences and some tips for anyone else tackling a similar project.

Starting off, I wanted to set up a transparent gateway using the PAS600L to facilitate Modbus communication between a Schneider Electric M580 PLC and a Mitsubishi Q series PLC. The goal was to have the Mitsubishi act as a client polling the M580. At first glance, it seemed straightforward, but I quickly realized there were a few questions I needed to answer. For instance, does the PAS600L require specific models for each PLC, and if so, how do I ensure they’re configured correctly? After some research, I found that while the PAS600L does require models for proper communication, Schneider Electric devices often have native support, which was a relief. However, creating custom models for Mitsubishi devices via EPC-Web was a bit of a learning curve.

Another challenge I encountered was configuring the authentication phrase for my Network Management Card 3 (AP9641) with PowerChute Network Shutdown. The manual was a bit unclear, and I kept getting an error stating the phrase was incorrect. After some trial and error, I realized that even though the manual said the phrase was unset by default, it might already have a default value. Resetting the device and manually setting the phrase solved the issue, but it was definitely a hurdle.

One area where I’ve had some success is with temperature sensors. I’ve been able to set them up to display readings on my Echo Show 15, which has been incredibly handy for monitoring different areas of my home. It’s a small feature, but it makes a big difference in how intuitive my system feels.

I’d love to hear from others who have experience integrating multiple brands in their smart home setups. What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them? Any tips for ensuring seamless communication between devices from different manufacturers would be invaluable!

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
