I recently embarked on a journey to integrate several smart devices into my home, and it’s been an exciting yet challenging experience. I started with a few Shelly devices, which have been fantastic for automating my lights and plugs. However, I’ve noticed that they occasionally go offline, which is a bit puzzling since they work perfectly within the Shelly app. I’ve tried restarting OpenHAB, and it usually fixes the issue temporarily, but I’m curious if there’s a more permanent solution out there.
I also picked up a Sonoff SNZB-04 contact sensor, which has been a bit hit or miss. It works most of the time, but about 20% of the time, it doesn’t trigger the desired action, like turning off my bathroom extractor fan when I open the window. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s definitely something I’d like to improve. I’ve heard great things about the community here, so I’m hoping someone might have some tips or workarounds for these issues.
On a more positive note, I’ve successfully set up a Python script to read temperature and humidity from a DHT22 sensor and forward the data to MQTT. It’s been a great learning experience, and I’m thrilled to see everything working seamlessly together. I’m also exploring ways to use this data for more advanced automations, like adjusting my HVAC system based on real-time conditions.
Overall, it’s been a rewarding experience to dive into the world of smart home automation. The challenges are part of the fun, and I’m grateful for the supportive community that helps me troubleshoot and learn along the way. If anyone has suggestions or similar experiences, I’d love to hear about them!
