Integrating Smart Floor Heating with Existing Thermostats

I’ve been working on upgrading my home’s heating system to be smarter and more energy-efficient. After reading through several forums and doing some research, I decided to explore integrating smart floor heating with my existing thermostats. Here’s what I’ve discovered and how I’m planning to implement it!

Currently, my home uses outdated thermostats with only two settings: fully on or fully off. I want to transition to a system that allows for more precise temperature control, which is where the HmIP-FAL230-C10 and HmIP-FALMOT-C12 come into play. These devices promise to offer stepless control, which would be a huge improvement over the binary system I have now.

One of my main concerns is whether I can reuse my existing actuators with these new smart devices. From what I understand, the HmIP-FAL230-C10 works well with traditional thermostats like the HmIP-WTH-2, but the HmIP-FALMOT-C12 requires actuators that support stepless control, such as the HmIP-VDMOT. This means I might need to upgrade some of my hardware to fully benefit from the new system.

Energy efficiency is a top priority for me, so I’m excited about the potential for smarter temperature management. My ideal setup involves programming each room’s thermostat to maintain specific temperatures during different times of the day and week. For example, I want the bathroom to be warm by 6 AM without needing to manually adjust the thermostat hours in advance.

I’ve also been exploring the possibility of integrating an outdoor temperature sensor to adjust heating based on the weather. This could help save energy during colder nights while still maintaining comfort indoors.

If anyone has experience with similar setups or knows of any software that simplifies this kind of automation, I’d love to hear about it! I’m hoping to avoid a complicated setup and find something user-friendly that still offers the customization I’m looking for.

Overall, I’m really excited about the potential of smart floor heating to make my home more comfortable and efficient. It’s been a bit of a learning curve, but I’m determined to make it work!

Cheers,
Emma
