I’ve been diving into the world of smart home security lately and wanted to share some of my experiences and questions with the community. A few weeks ago, I decided to merge my existing hardwired security system with my SmartThings setup. It’s been a bit of a learning curve, but I’ve managed to get everything working seamlessly!
My Setup
I have two security systems:
- A semi-old hardwired system that reports to a monitoring company.
- A SmartThings security system with a few motion sensors that report directly to my phone.
My goal was to have alarms from both systems trigger each other. Here’s how I did it:
- Freeing Up a Zone: I connected two zones in series to free up one zone on my hardwired system.
- Device Handler Setup: I set up a device handler for Mimolite and paired it with SmartThings.
- Security Rules: I created rules to trigger the Mimolite switch when motion sensors are activated.
- Alarm Integration: I connected the Mimolite switch to the hardwired system to trigger alarms and vice versa.
- Voltage Measurements: I measured the voltage across the bell terminals to configure the Mimolite settings properly.
It’s been a great project, and I’m thrilled with how it turned out! I can now monitor both systems from one place and have them work together seamlessly.
Questions for the Community
I’ve also been exploring camera groups, especially with Wyze cameras. I’d love to know if others have successfully added their doorbells to camera groups. The cropped video is a bit of a downside, but it would be awesome to have everything in one place.
Another thing I’m curious about is filtering AI push notifications. I’d love the ability to customize which events trigger notifications. For example, I’d like to get alerts for people but not for vehicles. Has anyone figured this out?
If you have any tips or experiences to share, I’d love to hear them! Let’s keep the discussion going and help each other out.
Cheers,
