Integrating Solar Storage with Home Assistant: A MQTT Journey

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience integrating my MARSTEK Venus C solar storage system with Home Assistant (HA). While it’s been a bit of a learning curve, I’m really excited about how it’s coming together!

I started by researching integration options and found that MQTT was the way to go, even though there’s no direct HA integration yet. After reaching out to the support team, they gave me access to their MQTT setup. I installed Mosquitto Broker, MQTT Explorer, and hm2mqtt, and got everything running smoothly on my system.

The challenge came when HA didn’t populate the entities as expected. All 143 entities showed as “not available,” which was pretty frustrating. I tried troubleshooting by checking logs, restarting HA, and even reinstalling add-ons, but nothing worked. I ended up reaching out to the community for help, and it’s been amazing to see the support and suggestions from others who’ve gone through similar struggles.

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s successfully integrated their solar storage via MQTT—what steps did you take? Any tips or tricks to ensure consistent data flow? I’m really hopeful that with the right configuration, I’ll be able to monitor and optimize my solar setup directly within HA.

It’s been a great learning experience, and I’m looking forward to getting this fully operational. Thanks in advance for any advice you can share!
