I recently purchased two Somfy io screens for my home automation setup, and I wanted to share my experience of integrating them with Hubitat. While the screens work seamlessly with the Somfy Tahoma app, getting them to work with Hubitat was a bit of a challenge. Here’s how I made it happen!
Step 1: Pairing the Screens
First, I paired the Somfy io screens with my Somfy Connectivity Kit. This was straightforward using the Somfy Tahoma app. The screens appeared in the app, and I could control them manually. However, my goal was to have them integrated into Hubitat for a more centralized automation setup.
Step 2: Adding to Hubitat
I discovered that Hubitat supports Somfy devices through the Somfy Tahoma binding. I added the Somfy io screens as devices in Hubitat. Initially, they showed up as ‘unknown’ devices, but after a bit of tweaking, they were recognized correctly.
Step 3: Automation Setup
Once the screens were recognized, I set up some basic automations. For example, I programmed the screens to open when the motion sensor in my backyard detects movement. This has been incredibly handy for letting in natural light and deterring potential intruders.
Step 4: Troubleshooting
There were a few hiccups along the way. At first, the screens wouldn’t respond to commands from Hubitat. After some research, I realized that the device URLs needed to be formatted correctly. Changing the device URL from ‘rts://’ to ‘ogp://’ resolved the issue.
Final Thoughts
Integrating the Somfy io screens with Hubitat has been a rewarding experience. The screens now seamlessly integrate into my smart home ecosystem, enhancing both convenience and security. If you’re considering adding Somfy io screens to your setup, I highly recommend taking the time to properly configure them with your Hubitat system. The result is well worth the effort!
Happy automating!
