Integrating Unifi Cameras with HomeKit: A Smooth Experience

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience integrating Unifi cameras into my HomeKit setup. While Unifi cameras aren’t natively HomeKit-compatible, I’ve found that with a bit of setup, they work seamlessly! :dart:

First, I set up my Unifi cameras using the Unifi Protect app. The video quality and motion detection features are top-notch, which was a huge plus for me. To integrate them with HomeKit, I used HomeBridge with the UniFi Protect plugin. The process was straightforward—just a few lines of configuration in the config.json file, and voilà! :rocket:

One thing I was worried about was continuous local recording. I was thrilled to discover that Unifi cameras support 24/7 local recording on an SD card, which means I don’t rely on cloud storage. This is perfect for privacy-conscious users like me! :hammer_and_wrench:

I also wanted to share a tip for anyone struggling with SSL errors when updating plugins. Simply restarting the node server and checking the logs for the UDI Python interface version worked wonders for me. It’s a minor tweak, but it makes a big difference in keeping everything running smoothly. :bulb:

If you’re considering Unifi cameras for your HomeKit setup, I highly recommend giving them a try. The integration is smooth, and the flexibility of local storage makes it a winning choice. Let me know if you have any questions or need help setting it up! :handshake:

Happy smart home tinkering! :hammer_and_wrench::sparkles:
