I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation, and I must say, it’s been an incredible journey! As someone who’s worked with HAI and Z-Wave systems before, I decided to take on a new challenge by integrating my Vera Lite with a GE Caddax NX8e security panel. The goal was to create a seamless, redundant system that not only enhances security but also adds a layer of convenience to my daily life.
The Setup
My setup includes a Vera Lite connected via Serial to the GE NX8e. I’ve also integrated several Z-Wave light and plug-in switches, which the Vera Lite controls effortlessly. Additionally, I’ve incorporated a NUUO PC running IP cameras for enhanced security. The integration allows for a series of automated actions: when I arm the security system, the Vera Lite turns off all interior lights and outlets while turning on the porch lights. It also triggers the NUUO system to arm and sends me a snapshot of the front door camera. Both systems send confirmation emails, which is a nice touch for redundancy.
The Challenge
However, there’s one hiccup I’ve been trying to iron out. When disarming the system, I want the porch light to turn off and receive an email notification. The issue is that the Vera Lite keeps sending alerts every 2-3 seconds because it detects the disarm state during each poll. I suspect using LUUP coding could help by triggering the disarm action only once when the panel transitions from armed to disarmed, rather than on every poll. I’m still experimenting with this, but I’m hopeful I can find a solution soon!
A Glimpse into My Smart Home
Beyond the security setup, my smart home journey has been filled with exciting discoveries. For instance, I recently set up a series of Govee smart lights that change colors in sync with live MLB games. It’s amazing how technology can bring the excitement of a ballpark right into my living room! I’ve also been exploring the capabilities of the Hue Lightstrip Gradient, which offers a whole new dimension of lighting customization.
The Future of My Smart Home
Looking ahead, I’m excited to delve deeper into custom automation scripts and explore more integrations. I’ve heard about the potential of using PLEG scenes for even more sophisticated automation, and I’m eager to give that a try. The support from the community and the continuous advancements in smart home technology make this journey truly rewarding.
If anyone has tips or experiences to share, especially regarding Z-Wave command confirmations or integrating devices with 24V inputs, I’d love to hear your insights! Let’s keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in smart home automation. ![]()
