Integrating VeraLite with Fibaro HC2: My Experience and Tips

I recently embarked on a project to integrate my VeraLite as a secondary controller alongside my Fibaro HC2, and I must say, it’s been an enlightening experience! The goal was to leverage the unique UI offered by Fibaro while benefiting from Vera’s extensive compatibility. Here’s how it went down:

First, I added the VeraLite as a secondary controller to the HC2. The setup was straightforward, and I immediately noticed the synergy between the two systems. To test the integration, I added a ZXT120 remotec device, which isn’t yet supported by Fibaro. Interestingly, the remotec appeared in VeraLite, allowing me to control my AC seamlessly. This got me thinking: how does the z-wave HC2 routing table come into play here? If Vera is far from the remotec (a battery-operated device) but close to the HC2 and other z-wave devices, will it still function reliably? My house is quite large, so this was a crucial consideration.

After some research and testing, I realized that Vera acts as both a command sender and a repeater in this setup. To ensure smooth operation, I added a scene in Vera that can be activated via HTTP from HC2, maintaining a single UI for consistency. This setup has been working like a charm!

Here are a few tips I’d like to share:

  • Ensure proper placement: Since the remotec is battery-operated, its placement relative to Vera and HC2 is critical for reliable communication.
  • Leverage Vera’s strengths: Vera’s compatibility and repeater capabilities make it an excellent complement to Fibaro’s UI.
  • Experiment with scenes: Creating scenes in Vera that integrate with HC2 can streamline your smart home experience.

I’d love to hear from others who have integrated Vera with Fibaro or other systems. What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them? Let’s discuss!

Cheers to seamless integration and smarter homes! :tada:
