Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience migrating from a Vivint system to a 2GIG setup. It was a bit of a puzzle at first, but I figured it out and thought I’d document the process for anyone else going through a similar transition.
First off, the previous owners had a Vivint system, and while they took the keypad, all the sensors were still in place. From the looks of things, they had the SkyControl setup. The door and window sensors were quite long, and I wasn’t sure if they’d work with my new 2GIG panel. After some research and a bit of trial and error, I discovered that the Vivint door sensors are actually compatible with the 2GIG system! What a relief!
I decided to pair these sensors with my VeraSecure hub, which supports both Zigbee and Z-Wave devices. It’s been a game-changer because it allows me to integrate all my existing sensors seamlessly. For instance, when I open the front door, the lights automatically turn on, and the system stays secure. It’s all about that perfect balance between convenience and security.
One thing I’ve been experimenting with is creating custom automations. For example, I set up a rule where if the front door is opened after sunset, the porch lights come on and stay on for 15 minutes. It’s these little touches that make the system feel truly personalized. Plus, the VeraSecure hub’s ability to work alongside the 2GIG panel has made managing everything much simpler.
I’d love to hear from others who’ve gone through a similar transition or have tips on integrating different systems. It’s amazing how flexible these setups can be once you figure out the right configuration. Happy automating everyone!
