I’ve always been fascinated by how weather can influence our daily routines, and integrating it into my smart home setup has been a game-changer! 
Recently, I dove into using Open Weather Map with Homey to create a seamless weather automation system. Here’s how I did it and what I learned along the way.
The Journey Begins
I started by signing up for a free Open Weather Map account to get my API key. With that, I created a virtual weather sensor in Homey, linking it to my location using my postcode. The setup was straightforward, and within minutes, I had real-time weather data flowing into my system!
Creating the Perfect Flow
Using Homey’s flow builder, I set up a trigger that activates whenever the weather changes. To ensure it doesn’t disturb my family late at night, I added a time condition to only run between 8 AM and 8 PM. If the weather changes during these hours, Homey now alerts me through notifications and even changes the color of my smart lights to match the forecast—rainy days get a calming blue, while sunny days glow in warm yellow!
