Integrating WLED Lights with Motion Sensors for a Seamless Experience

Hey everyone, I’m thrilled to join this community and share my latest home automation project! I’m in the planning phase of installing WLED lights along my staircase, and I want to automate them using motion sensors. The goal is to have the lights turn on with a smooth fade-in effect when someone approaches the stairs and then fade out after a short delay when no motion is detected. I’m also considering integrating this with my existing smart home system to adjust the lighting based on the time of day and ambient brightness. I’ve done some research and found the WS2815 LED strip and the WLED controller to be perfect for this project. However, I’m a bit stuck on choosing the right motion sensors. I want them to be discreet, reliable, and easy to integrate with Home Assistant. I’ve heard great things about the TP-Link Kasa Smart Plug and the Zigbee-based motion sensors, but I’m not entirely sure which ones would work best for my setup. Another aspect I’m excited about is keeping my existing wall switches functional. I plan to use Zigbee relay modules to make them ‘smart’ without altering their appearance. This way, I can still manually override the automation if needed. If anyone has experience with similar projects or can recommend motion sensors that work seamlessly with Home Assistant, I’d love to hear your insights! I’m also curious about how others handle the integration of motion sensors and LED strips for staircases. Any tips or resources would be incredibly helpful as I move forward with this project. Looking forward to learning from your experiences and sharing mine as I progress! Let’s create some magical lighting moments together! :rocket::sparkles:
