Integrating Wyze Cam2 into OpenHAB’s Habpanel was a bit of a challenge at first, but I’m thrilled to share how I made it work! Wyze cameras are fantastic for their price, but they don’t natively support RTSP without some hacking, which means they don’t connect directly to OpenHAB. However, I found a clever workaround using the Android app TinyCam Pro. Here’s how I did it:
-
Install and Configure TinyCam Pro: First, I downloaded TinyCam Pro from the Google Play Store. This app acts as a web server, broadcasting the Wyze Cam2 feeds on my local network. I configured it to recognize my Wyze cameras and set it to start automatically on boot. This way, I don’t need an extra device—my existing Android phone serves as the bridge!
-
Access the Web Server: Once TinyCam Pro was up and running, I accessed its web interface on my laptop. Right-clicking on the desired camera feed and selecting ‘Inspect Element’ allowed me to copy the URL directly from the browser.
-
Configure Habpanel: With the URL in hand, I navigated to OpenHAB’s Habpanel and added a new Camera Feed widget. Pasting the URL into the widget settings made the Wyze Cam2 feed appear seamlessly in my dashboard!
This setup has been a game-changer for me. It’s cost-effective, and I didn’t need to purchase additional hardware since I already had an Android device. Plus, the ability to monitor my home from anywhere in the house is incredibly reassuring.
If you’re looking to integrate Wyze cameras into your smart home setup, I highly recommend giving TinyCam Pro a try. It’s a simple yet effective solution that bridges the gap between Wyze’s ecosystem and OpenHAB’s powerful features. Happy automating! ![]()
