Integrating Wyze Cameras with Synology NAS: A Smooth Experience

Recently, I decided to integrate my Wyze cameras with my Synology NAS for a more seamless surveillance setup. I was initially concerned about whether the cameras would work over a wired connection without relying on Wi-Fi, especially since I have multiple cameras to set up. After some research and experimentation, I found the process to be surprisingly straightforward!

Here’s how I did it:

  1. Firmware Update Check: Before diving in, I made sure both my Wyze cameras and Synology NAS were running the latest firmware. This step is crucial to ensure compatibility and avoid any potential issues.

  2. Network Configuration: I connected each Wyze camera to my Synology NAS using a CAT6 Ethernet cable. The setup wizard on the Wyze app made it easy to recognize the wired connection and configure the cameras accordingly.

  3. Synology Surveillance Station Integration: Once the cameras were connected, I installed the Surveillance Station app on my NAS. This allowed me to access live feeds and recorded footage directly from my NAS, providing an added layer of security and convenience.

  4. Power Over Ethernet (PoE): To simplify cable management, I used PoE injectors with my cameras. This eliminated the need for separate power sources and kept my setup clean and organized.

  5. Testing and Optimization: After setting everything up, I tested the cameras in different lighting conditions and ensured that motion detection and recording were working as expected. I also configured notifications to be sent to my phone for real-time alerts.

The end result is a reliable and efficient surveillance system that doesn’t rely on Wi-Fi, which is especially beneficial in areas with spotty coverage. I’m thrilled with how seamlessly everything integrates and would highly recommend this setup to anyone looking to enhance their home security!
