Integrating Wyze Devices with OpenHAB: A Success Story

Hi everyone, I’ve recently been diving into the world of smart home automation and decided to give OpenHAB a try. One of the devices I wanted to integrate was my Wyze camera. After some research and trial and error, I managed to get everything working smoothly! Here’s how I did it:

  1. Initial Setup: I started by installing the Wyze binding in OpenHAB. This was straightforward using the Paper UI. I added my Wyze account details and let OpenHAB discover my devices.

  2. Device Configuration: Once the camera was detected, I configured it to send notifications to my email whenever motion was detected. This involved setting up rules in OpenHAB to trigger emails based on the camera’s events.

  3. Testing: I tested the setup by moving around in front of the camera and waited for the notification. It worked perfectly! The email came through with a link to the live feed, which was super handy.

  4. Enhancements: I also set up a rule to turn on my hallway lights when motion was detected at night. This added an extra layer of security and convenience.

This experience has been incredibly rewarding. Not only did I learn more about OpenHAB’s capabilities, but I also enhanced my home’s security system. I’m now looking into integrating more Wyze devices and exploring other possibilities within OpenHAB. If anyone has tips or suggestions, I’d love to hear them!

Cheers,
