Hello everyone! I wanted to share my recent experience integrating my existing Z-Wave devices with the Ring Alarm system. As many of you might know, I’ve been using a Samsung Connect Home mesh network with several Z-Wave devices spread throughout my house. Recently, I decided to add a Ring Alarm system, which includes its own Z-Wave hub. I was initially concerned about potential interference between the two Z-Wave networks, but I’m happy to report that everything has been working seamlessly!
One of my main concerns was whether my existing Z-Wave devices could still serve as repeaters for the devices on the Ring Alarm network. After some research and testing, I found that the devices on my original network are indeed functioning as repeaters for the Ring Alarm devices. This has been a huge relief, as it means I don’t need to add additional repeaters or hubs to maintain communication between all my devices.
I also wanted to address the question of whether moving certain devices, like my First Alert ZCOMBO and Schlage Connect door locks, over to the Ring Alarm Z-Wave network would affect my ability to use ITTT rules. While it’s true that Ring Alarm doesn’t currently support ITTT, I’ve found that I can still achieve similar functionality by leveraging the Ring Alarm app’s automation features. For example, I’ve set up location-based actions that trigger when my smartphone detects my presence, automatically locking or unlocking the door as needed.
Another thing I wanted to mention is the importance of proper network configuration. I made sure to carefully follow the setup instructions provided by Ring Alarm and Samsung Connect Home to ensure that both networks were properly configured and that there was no overlap in network IDs or channels. This step was crucial in preventing any interference between the two systems.
Overall, I’ve been extremely satisfied with how the integration has worked out. My home security system is now more robust and versatile, thanks to the combination of my existing Z-Wave devices and the Ring Alarm system. I’d recommend this setup to anyone looking to enhance their home security without completely overhauling their existing smart home ecosystem!
