Hey everyone,
I wanted to share my recent experience integrating both Zigbee and Matter devices into my smart home setup. It’s been quite an adventure, filled with both triumphs and a few hurdles.
First off, I’ve successfully integrated several Zigbee devices using Zigbee2MQTT. The process was smooth, especially with IKEA devices, which worked out of the box. The setup allowed me to control lights, sensors, and even some Aqara devices, though I noticed they can be a bit flaky at times. The real joy came from seeing everything work seamlessly with my Home Assistant setup.
However, the journey hasn’t been entirely smooth. Recently, I decided to switch from my old Sonoff Dongle Plus to the SMTECH SLZB-06 coordinator. After flashing the same IEEE ID, I noticed an odd issue: while end devices like switches and sensors worked fine, routers like the Smart Plug and air quality monitor didn’t show up. This was perplexing, especially since I hadn’t encountered such problems before. I tried the usual troubleshooting steps—power cycling devices, removing repeaters, rebooting HA—but nothing seemed to resolve the issue. It’s frustrating because I’d rather not re-pair all my devices, especially when others are working perfectly.
On a lighter note, I’ve also been exploring Matter devices. I recently got my hands on the Aqara Light Switch H2 EU and Sonoff M5-1C-86W. The integration process was straightforward, but I noticed some limitations. The Aqara switch only showed two buttons in Homey, and energy measurement was only available for the first button. The Sonoff switch worked well, but it lacks energy monitoring, which is a bit disappointing. Despite these quirks, I’m excited about the potential of Matter for future integrations.
If anyone has insights or solutions for my coordinator issue or Matter device quirks, I’d be grateful for your advice. The community here is amazing, and I’m always learning something new from everyone’s experiences.
