Hey everyone, I’ve been exploring ways to integrate Zoom meetings into my smart home setup, and I thought I’d share my journey and see if anyone else is interested in this idea.
First off, I stumbled upon the possibility of creating a binding or a Zoom app that could push Zoom status updates into openHAB. The idea is pretty exciting—imagine having your smart home know when you’re in a Zoom meeting and adjusting settings like lighting or thermostat accordingly. I’ve been looking into the documentation provided by Zoom for developers, specifically their webhook-only app guide. It seems like a solid starting point, but I’m not entirely sure how to proceed with creating such an app or binding myself.
In the meantime, I came across some GitHub repositories that might offer a workaround. For example, there’s a Raspberry Pi presence light for Teams and Zoom, which could potentially be adapted for other platforms. Another project, the Zoom Presence Indicator API, sends Zoom events to Azure IoT Hub, which could then be integrated into a smart home ecosystem. I’m also looking at a MQTT bridge that polls Zoom status updates and sends them to an MQTT broker. These projects are pretty interesting, but I’m not sure how compatible they are with my current setup.
I’d love to hear if anyone has successfully integrated Zoom into their smart home or has any tips on how to approach this. Whether it’s through custom scripts, existing apps, or even third-party services, I’m all ears! If there’s enough interest, maybe we could collaborate on developing a more seamless integration.
On a lighter note, I can’t help but smile at the thought of my smart home greeting me when I join a Zoom meeting or dimming the lights when I mute myself. It’s these little touches that make automation truly magical.
Looking forward to your thoughts and experiences!
