Investigating Excessive DNS Requests from Wyze Camera

I recently installed a new Wyze camera and noticed an unusual increase in DNS requests to Google.com. This started after a firmware update, and it’s significantly slowing down my network. I suspect the camera might be the culprit, but I’m not entirely sure. Here’s what I’m thinking and what I plan to do to resolve this issue.

First, I’ll check if the camera’s firmware is up to date. Sometimes, updates can introduce bugs or unintended behaviors. If it’s already updated, I might consider resetting the camera to factory settings and reconfiguring it to see if the problem persists.

Next, I’ll monitor my network traffic using a tool like Wireshark to see if there are any unusual patterns or excessive requests coming from the camera’s IP address. This could help me confirm if the camera is indeed responsible for the DNS flood.

I’ll also look into my router’s settings to ensure that there aren’t any misconfigurations causing this issue. Maybe the DNS settings are pointing to an unreliable server, leading to repeated lookup attempts.

If the problem continues, reaching out to Wyze support would be the next logical step. They might have insights or fixes for this specific issue. Additionally, checking online forums or communities for similar experiences could provide more clues or solutions from other users who’ve encountered the same problem.

In the meantime, I’ll try switching my DNS settings to a more reliable provider like Google’s 8.8.8.8 or Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 to see if that stabilizes the network performance.

I’m hopeful that by systematically checking each possibility, I’ll be able to pinpoint the cause and restore my network’s efficiency. If anyone has experienced something similar or has advice, I’d greatly appreciate hearing from you!
