IR controller request

Dear Sirs,

The M2 and M3 hubs have an excellent feature that allows them to control other devices via an IR remote. However, having such a hub in every room is rather costly and impractical. Therefore, I would like to kindly request that you consider releasing a standalone device (an IR controller) capable of functioning as a smart IR remote.

Sincerely, Alexander

@allex_leo Hey Alexander! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with us. It’s great that you’ve noticed the useful IR remote control feature in the M2 and M3 hubs .

I understand your point about the cost and impracticality of having a hub in every room. But unfortunately, there’s no information in our reference material regarding the release of a standalone IR controller device.

For what it’s worth, the IR blaster on M3 is much better than M2. I control devices in 3 separate rooms with it (my floorplan is fairly open), where M2 had to be pointed directly at the device I wanted to control.

You have a very specific case. But now imagine several rooms and even a couple of floors — and to control at least the air conditioner in each room, you’d need a separate hub. Each of those hubs not only costs money but also builds its own Zigbee network.
