Is it possible to pair and controll w600 through w100 with ZBT-2(Zigbee enabled) and Home Assistan?

Hello!

I am planning to use the Aqara Radiator Thermostat W600 together with the Aqara Climate Sensor W100, I’m going to buy 10 of each for my 10 rooms in my house(one per room).

I understand that the W100-to-W600 functionality only works when both devices are used in Zigbee mode.

My question is specifically about the required Zigbee coordinator/hub:

Can I use a Home Assistant Connect ZBT-2 as the Zigbee coordinator in Home Assistant and still use the Aqara Home app to pair/link the W100 with the W600, so that the W100 can control the thermostat?

Or does this W100-to-W600 pairing/control functionality require an official Aqara Zigbee hub, such as the Aqara Hub E1, M100, M200 or M3?

In other words: is an Aqara hub mandatory for the native W100 → W600 control feature, or can the same feature work with Home Assistant using the Connect ZBT-2 as the Zigbee coordinator?

Thank you.

Hello and welcome.

The W100 and W600 should work fine with ZHA/Zigbee2MQTT, even though they may not offer the same range of features.

Unfortunately, you can only connect an external temperature sensor directly to the W600 via the Aqara app.

However, with Zigbee2MQTT, you could set a value to external_temperature_input via an automation in HA. Unfortunately, I don’t know if this also works via ZHA.

Bear in mind that manufacturer hubs are designed to work seamlessly. When pairing devices with Home Assistant via a Zigbee coordinator, however, you can’t assume that everything will function exactly as it does with manufacturer hubs. Many tasks that are automatically handled by the hub’s software (such as the use of an external temperature sensor) must be implemented manually in HA.

Which do you use, ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT, in Home Assistant?
