Shouldn’t it be compatible with previous versions?
According to the API documentation, “On/Off Light” is supported:
https://opendoc-test.aqara.cn/en/docs/Matter/Aqara%20Supported%20Matter%20Device%20Type%20List.html
This statement doesn’t make any sense to me at all.
Thanks for the documentation.
I will add it to the email that it is supported, and it should work.
These missing devices in the Aqara app are working correctly in Google.
On/Off Light device type is just a light that only offers on/off, can be a bulb, sometimes a wall switch or a relay. That’s supported by every platform.
On/Off Light Switch device type despite the name is not a light or a switch or a relay, it is a remote control made to bind to Matter lights and control them. Since most platforms do not support bindings at the moment, they don’t support this device type.
The problem is many devices, especially generic or from unknown brands, use that device type incorrectly to identify a wall switch for regular lights or a relay. That is not its device type and that’s why it is discarded by some platforms instantly unless they add an exception for that device in their database. So, in this case, the issue is most probably on the device having bad Matter compliance and using the wrong device type.
Do I understand this correctly? Your device identifies itself as Matter Device Type 259 (On/Off Light Switch). Other systems (like Google) accept this mismatch and effectively bind it as Type 256 (On/Off Light) because it has the on/off capabilities.
The Aqara Support email is essentially saying: No, we won’t do that. We will only support this kind of device if it correctly identifies itself as Type 271 (Mounted On/Off Control).
So how they supposed to expose them to make it work with all platforms?
They are using matter 1.3 for bridges.

Thanks for explaining it.
No problem, I guess you can tell them the device type is wrong since that USB device is not a Matter lights control. In fact, I’d say On/Off Plug-in Unit is the best fit for it.
Having said that, platforms sometimes could be smarter to detect the device capabilities and not depend on device types.
Thanks I asked them to expose that relay as on/off light and that usb as On/Off plug unit.
Will “on off plug in” expose these 3 on/off?
I don’t know, do Matter power strips or dual outlets display correctly in Aqara? Those are also on/off plug-in units.
No idea, we will see then, thanks a lot <3
