This might be useful for some of you running IKEA Kajplats with your Aqara hub. I suspect it could be useful for other ecosystems.
I have been automating temperature and brightness of the lighting based on specific times of the day and the hours around sunset. I found that automating or triggering scenes caused bulbs to jump suddenly to the new setting instead of a smooth fade you might expect if you were to adjust it manually, one device, one time in the app, for instance.
The automation to adjust brightness without on/off seemed to exhibit the same behaviour. However, in addition to that, if the bulb was OFF, it would turn the light ON! The bulbs would report to the Aqara hub that they were still OFF, still using the old scene and could not be turned off until they were “turned on” causing them to flicker and then return to normal on/off behaviour.
This behaviour was only happening with the clear globe E27 white spectrum bulbs - not with the frosted E14 white spectrum bulbs. These are the only IKEA bulbs I own.
The solution was simple, if a little challenging to troubleshoot. Do not send “temperature and brightness” together. Not as a single combined command and also not as 2 separate commands without adding in a delay between. I suspect that the globe bulbs are “crashing” or being overwhelmed by both commands arriving at once and the delay prevents that happening.
I’ve spent more time obsessing about this than I would like to admit, so perhaps I can save someone else some frustration.
