I’ve been trying to figure out a reliable way to get notified when my laundry cycle is done, and I finally found a solution that works for me! Here’s the setup I came up with and how it’s been working out.
I know the built-in app has the ability to flash a light when the load is complete, but that’s not super helpful if nobody happens to be in the room with the flashing light. So, I wanted something that could alert me no matter where I am in the house. My initial thought was to use a Belkin WeMo switch attached to a night light in the hallway. That way, if my wife or one of the kids takes the laundry out, they can just press the button on the switch to turn off the light. But I kept wondering if there was a better approach that anyone has found to meet this same need.
After some research and trial and error, I decided to go with a simple automation setup. I programmed a scene in my smart home hub that triggers a notification on my phone when the washing machine finishes. It uses the existing sensors on the machine to detect when the cycle is complete and sends a push notification to my phone. This way, I don’t have to rely on being in the right room or manually checking the machine.
I’ve been using this setup for a few weeks now, and it’s been a lifesaver. It’s so convenient to get a notification right when the laundry is done, and I don’t have to worry about missing it anymore.
