Laundry Helpers

I have a smart outlet on my washer, a vibration sensor on my dryer, and window/door sensors on both. Using home assistant automations, I turn one lamp light in my livingroom blue when the washer is done, and another lamp light in my livingroom green when the dryer is done. When the washer door is opened, the one lamp goes from blue to normal white, and when the dryer door is opened, the other lamp goes from green to normal white. It took me a while to get it working, because I had to create helpers to monitor both the vibration sensor and the smart outlet power usage over time, but it seems to be working now.

Great idea to have a bulb come on or change color. I have automations set up for my laundry as well, but didn’t think to add a bulb. Thanks for the idea!

Great idea! I also have the automation send a notification to my phone or announce on a speaker that it’s done.

I put a smart outlet(and water leak sensor) on my washer, but it moves around, so a vibration detector for my dryer was a no go.

Irritated at the lack of 240v NEMA 14-50, contemplating buying a current clamp and DIYing a solution, I installed an Emporia Vue 3 and one of the branch circuits exclusively monitors my dryer.

Now, I need to have the automations tell the correct user (whomever loaded the machine) that it is done [or “done” as the dryer doesn’t always do a great job]

My daughter is never changing someone else’s laundry unless she is NOT asked.

Also, no one touches her laundry.

At one point, my brother in law and a couple lived here, talk about SPAMming phones with notifications!

Any ideas on IDing loads (without user input like a button), of the 3 of us, I’m the only one who wears their smartwatch reliably and no one keeps their phone on them. We’re all several inches apart in height and differing weights.

It is a dedicated room that has ~3ft (1meter) of wall, then the dryer, then a [top loading] washer, then the far wall.

mmWave (height/size [volume]) or facial recognition (only 3 faces, mayce 3 and null) are my only ideas, but I would prefer cheap and easy. Also, hw would you write this yaml?

Very cool application and work around for current systems!
