Nice automation. I do something similar. Love it as I am hard of hearing and don’t hear the chime when a load is complete. So the text-to-speech notifications really help.
Why don’t you use a smart plug and make an easy automation „when energy usage drops under x watt (depends on your mashine) send message „laundry done“. I do this for month and works fine.
Glad that works for you! As I wrote in the post, I did do this for a long time too, but as I said, my new washer has too many settings and inconsistencies on power draw for me to map this out. Also my washer draws power even when not running and it cycles up and down such that I could not reliably know when the washer is off based on power alone. I had too many false alerts doing it this way. I mis the days when my washer not running meant it drew no energy.
