Nice write up!

I still think there is a massive piece of functionality missing from the T2’s and that is linking to Alexa when in Zigbee mode using the Alexa Skill.

When is Matter / Thread mode, you can simply say “Alexa turn off name of bulb” and all works. However, when using Zigbee mode which gives more functionality and allows for MARS pairing when used with say a V1 or H2 switch, does not pass through the bulb details to Alexa using the Skill.

Aqara, is this something that will be coming soon or should I give up on this and link the M3 into Alexa and use the Matter bypass (really trying to avoid this as the Skill works for all other Aqara devices).

Thanks

I got a T2 bulb this weekend and it works great. I use it with a FP2, when I’m in the living room the T2 turns up, when I’m not the T2 turns off.

Yes, the T2 is very good when paired with a presence sensor like the FP2, P1, P2 and will be particularly good with the upcoming FP300. Also when paired with a door and window sensor, the pairing is particularly good in cupboards and closets making a very convenient automated process.

The T2 bulb with Matter also supports native smooth fades (transitions) and you can create advanced automations and alter settings like the power-on behaviour, although that’s going to depend on the smart home platform used if it exposes those features to the user or not.

Google Home, Alexa or Apple Home do not support creating transitions (although Apple’s Adaptive Lighting uses them internally), Home Assistant does, SmartThings only partially unless you create a custom driver, IKEA Home Smart partially too (it can schedule wake-up and wind-down transitions but not launch them on demand with a button for instance).

These are perfectly valid points and I considered putting a little bit more detail in, however the little guides that I am writing are designed for brand-new users who I believe would prefer to keep things simple. However, from people like yourself commenting and the comments like the one you have made means that they also get valuable information so thank you very much for your comment as this may also help someone who wants to become a more advanced user. Hope you have an amazing day.
