Light Automation: A Smart Home Journey

I’ve been on a fascinating journey with smart home automation, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and insights with the community. One of the most rewarding aspects has been setting up automated lighting systems to enhance comfort and convenience in my home.

Initially, I focused on creating a system that would turn on outdoor lights after sunset, but only if no one was home. This required a bit of trial and error, but I managed to integrate presence sensors with sunset times to make it work seamlessly. It’s been a game-changer for ensuring security while away from home.

However, I faced a challenge when the system occasionally triggered during daylight hours if the lights were off. To solve this, I decided to set specific time windows for the automation to activate—only between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM. This adjustment has made the system much more reliable and energy-efficient.

Another interesting project I undertook was integrating a non-contact liquid level sensor to monitor hydrochloric acid levels in my pool’s chlorinator. This was a bit of a DIY adventure, but it paid off by providing peace of mind through automated alerts when the levels were low. The sensor I chose was the XKC-Y25-V, which worked perfectly with my setup.

I’d love to hear from others who have tackled similar projects or have tips for improving automation systems. Whether it’s lighting, safety, or environmental monitoring, sharing experiences helps us all create smarter homes. Here’s to more innovative solutions and happy automation!
