Lights, Camera, Automation! How I Created Movie Magic at Home

Hey , just had to share this little project I wrapped up last weekend—turned my boring living room into a mini home theater, fully powered by Aqara gear!

Here’s the deal: I was getting real tired of fumbling with remotes, forgetting to dim the lights, and messing around with my projector setup every movie night. So I figured, why not let Aqara do the heavy lifting?

Now it’s all automated. I created a simple scene: the moment I say “Movie time” to Alexa, my curtains close (shoutout to the Curtain Driver E1), lights dim to 10%, the AC adjusts to comfy mode, and the projector and soundbar power up via a smart plug. All synced through my Aqara Hub M2. It honestly feels like magic every time.

Still fine-tuning the ambient lighting—thinking of adding a motion sensor to pause the movie if someone gets up. Anyone else tried that?

@SmartHomeGeek It sounds like you’ve crafted an incredible home theater experience with your Aqara setup! Your automation scene with Alexa and the Aqara Hub M2 truly transforms movie night into something magical. Adding a motion sensor to pause the movie when someone gets up is a fantastic idea. According to the reference information, you can use conditions like “Someone moved” with Aqara Motion Sensors to create such an automation. This way, the movie could pause when motion is detected, enhancing your movie experience even more.
